SNDT Women’s University is the first Women’s University in India and South-East Asia, established in 1916 by the visionary social reformer Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve. Founded with the mission of empowering women through education, the University has been a pioneer in women-centric learning for over a century.
From just five graduates in 1921, SNDT Women’s University has evolved into a multi-disciplinary institution offering programs from K-12 to Ph.D. across a wide range of fields including liberal arts, sciences, commerce, education, technology, and vocational studies.
The University now proudly operates four campuses:

-
Karve Road, Pune
-
Chandrapur, Maharashtra (newly added)
With the ability to affiliate colleges across India (with prior consent from state governments), SNDTWU has a national presence and influence.
In 2025, the University was Re-Accredited by NAAC, reaffirming its commitment to quality education, academic excellence, and social responsibility.
