Different rules and regulations to be followed at Usha Mittal Institute of Technology Rules and Regulations General Rules Attending Lectures / Labs Students coming late to the Institute will not be allowed in the classes. Bunking classes is not allowed in any case. In order to monitor the academic progress as well as the overall development of our students, we nominate one staff member as Class Advisor to whom students can approach for guidance. The students as well as their parents are welcome to contact the Class Advisor any time during the session (with prior appointment). While the lecture or the lab is in progress, a student is supposed to keep her mobile phone switched off failing which severe punishment can be given. Prohibition of Ragging Ragging within or outside the institute is strictly prohibited. Whoever student directly or indirectly participates in, abets or propagates ragging within or outside the institute shall face strict disciplinary action as per the provision of Maharashtra Prohibition of RAGGING ACT, 1999. Office Discipline Students are advised to look at notice boards for various circulars/notices etc. displayed regarding payment of fees, commencement of examination and other matters of academic interest. Whenever dates have been given for payment of Tuition Fees/Exam Fees etc. students should pay the fees well before the last date. This will avoid penalties as well as inconvenience to them. Students should not come to the Office for Railway concession or any other matter while their theory classes /practical are in progress. Further, whenever they come to Office, they should maintain proper discipline and decorum and they shall always follow the Queue system and shall not crowd near the counters and should not block main entrance & exit points. Picnics & Outings Students will not be permitted to organize/participate in private picnics/outings even on Sundays/Holidays without the written consent of the college Principal. All picnics/outings have to be authorized and accompanied by college staff. Any failure to comply with the rule will lead to strict action. Internet Usage Students are required to use the internet facility only for academic purposes and not for any other purposes like chatting. Misuse of this facility and tarnishing the image of the Institute or the faculty members on social networking sites will be liable for punishment and strict action. Theft Students found stealing other’s property or institutional property will be severely dealt with. If the institutional property/facility is damaged/stolen, the entire batch of students will be penalized and the cost will be recovered as deemed fit. Suggestion Box The suggestion box is provided by the Office. The students can use it for their problems, suggestions, complaints etc. Principal’s Signature Students should come to the Principal's Office for signature or for attestation during the recess time or only after their theory classes/practical are over. The above conditions are as per the Rules & Regulations of the Institute and all students should strictly follow them. Strict action will be taken against the student, if she fails to observe them. Any matter not covered by these Rules will rest at the absolute discretion of the Principal. The mission of the department is to provide a strong foundation in fundamental subjects to aspiring students of engineering and to empower them to face real time challenges of the professional world. By facilitating the process of helping budding engineers expand and upgrade their knowledge the department acts as a valuable collaborative partner to other Departments of the Institute. The department foots in fundamentals to help the students keep themselves abreast with the dynamic world of engineering and prepares them to transition from the college to the corporate world. A dedicated group of highly qualified and motivated teachers act as mentors and facilitators to provide the much needed scaffolding and hand holding to the young first year students of engineering. The faculty is supported by experts from the academia and industry in providing a dynamic and learner centric teaching learning experience to the students. All the courses are taught using the blended mode with the use of ICT tools to enhance learner experience. The faculty members of the department have been extensively using the Moodle as a learning management system since 2015. Project and practical oriented approaches are the hallmarks of the department as it endeavors to provide a strong base in value based learning and critical thinking with a focus on ethics, soft skills and hands on experience in the core subjects of science and technology. Artificial intelligence refers to the development of computer systems that mimic a human brain and enable them to perform tasks that usually requires human intelligence. The AI branch has opportunities in the current domains such as Banking, Medical, Robotics, Analytics, Security, Mechanics, Aerospace, Online Education and many more. AI branch is introduced at the Usha Mittal Institute of Technology (UMIT) during the Academic Year 2023-2024. The syllabus of AI is based on the current and forthcoming requirements of the Business and Human needs. The syllabus of AI is designed by Academics Expert and Industry Experts to fulfil the demand of industries and students. High performance computing laboratory and the Internet of Things laboratory useful for training to students in the AI discipline is under the development stage. Students will be able to utilize facilities developed in this laboratory. MATLAB software is procured by the college and students will be able to undergo significant training using various modules made available by Mathswork for the AI discipline. IEEE Students Library provides training to students to understand various developments in AI. The work of the development of the Digital Library is also initiated by the college. Makers’ space will be useful to students for the successful completion of miniprojects, project work and the internship facilities inhouse to be developed in this college. Faculty engagement : Faculty groomed for more flexible involvement and engagement in interdisciplinary activities and team teaching that can help students through seminars, mini projects and major projects. Faculty upskilled by participating in various seminars, workshops, webinars and other training programs. Regular interaction and collating experiences was done through weekly online meetings with the Principal. Standardizing experiential learning: To reduce the gap between student’s learning and hands-on fieldwork, opportunities for corporate involvement, internships and live experience was provided to support continuous learning, reskilling and training throughout the various stages. We already have our students doing Internship for Flipkart and we are planning to connect with other recruiters to provide similar opportunities to students. Our students also worked on live projects to help create apps and websites for third party industry players. Curated Coursera Courses : Specially curated courses for UMIT SNDT WU was created with Coursera for students and staff to improve the skills. The courses are taught by top instructors from world-class universities and companies to learn something new. Online Assessment : Submission and presentation of assignments, quizzes, seminars and projects was taken online. In case the students had problems accessing the internet, special provision was made for them to either submit their assignments through WhatsApp or phone calls made by the faculty. The online synchronous lectures were recorded and shared with the students on YouTube and LMSs. Certificate Courses : The Information Technology, Electronics and Communication and Computer Science and Technology Departments will be offering certificate courses in 6 thrust areas of Technology IoT and Embedded Systems, SMAC, Data Analytics, Geospatial Information Systems, Cybersecurity and Visual Effects and Graphics. Online Interactions : Regular online interaction with departmental tasks such as planning new semesters, subject allocation, etc. Projects : Students Projects and ideas for innovation that can form a basis for Made in India Program were identified and prepared for the same. Patents : Encouraging students and helping them to get innovative projects patented or published/presented in National and International Journals and Conferences. AI Gaming Event with Microsoft It was a two day AI gaming tournament. Students got an insight about Python programming language and then pre-final and final tournaments commenced. E-certificates were given to the participants and the winners were awarded with cash prizes. IEEE Day The annual IEEE Day was celebrated on the 6th of October 2020. In this event Guests of Honor encouraged students to actively participate in the IEEE worldwide activities and seminars. Pre-IEEE Day For Pre-IEEE day we organized the Among Us Championship which was the most trending game of 2020. This fun event got a huge response from the students. It was an individual event with two rounds. Crazy Artsy Event IEEE brought an opportunity to exhibit students' talent through Crazy Artsy Event which was conducted on 30th September 2020 where students were asked to make a poster on the topic ‘Leveraging Technology for better Tomorrow’.
